    Nigel’s early career was in electronic engineering research and development for the defence industry developing microwave and radio frequency devices. He then took a higher degree in Environmental Protection and used both this training and his physics and electronics background in environmental consultancy and particularly the assessment and monitoring of landfill gas. He joined Merebrook in 1998 and has over 18 years experience in all aspects of environmental consultancy. After several years as Merebrook’s Director of Science and Environment, he became Managing Director in 2006.

    Simon’s career began in the Met Office where he worked within the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Group, designing and constructing laboratory scale experiments in atmospheric flow. Later he worked in the field of environmental monitoring, developing and testing sensors for use in automatic stations in remote environments. He has used his scientific experience to great effect in environmental consultancy and now has almost 20 years experience. He has contributed to a number of industry and government task force initiatives on waste regulation and contaminated land assessment.

    Mark has worked in the construction industry since 1978, initially as a structural steelwork draftsman detailing commercial and industrial buildings. After completing his degree in 1985 he joined the management team of British Coal and became responsible for design, detailing, contract procurement and management of civil engineering construction works for opencast coal developments in South Wales up until 2000. He then joined the infrastructure development team of Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick in Chesterfield and in 2002 joined Merebrook as an Associate, taking responsibility for structural and civil engineering design and contract works. Mark has also acted as an expert witness and continues to provide specialised support for Contractors and Developers in the Coal Industry.

    During her career Michelle has worked with in-house health, safety and environment departments as well as a range of consultancies. She combines occupational hygiene and safety issues within the built environment in the construction, manufacturing, civil engineering and the waste/environment sectors.

    Michelle joined Merebrook in 2001 and set up the health and safety team completing a range of services for clients. In addition to the CDM, asbestos and occupational hygiene work, AIG have appointed Michelle as one of their External Assessors for employers liability as well as public liability risks.

    Michelle joined the IOSH Consultancy committee four years ago and spent time as Vice Chair and Chair. Michelle chairs and conducts presentations on behalf of IOSH and has contributed to several recent IOSH/HSE publications.

    Robin’s professional experience commenced with research projects and surveys in the marine environment following which he worked in a laboratory analysing environmental media. He then moved into the field of environmental consultancy, and for the last 13 years has specialised in contaminated land assessment. In this time he has worked on a very broad spectrum of contaminated sites and has designed many remedial schemes to bring difficult derelict land back into beneficial use. Robin moved from the company’s original Derbyshire base to open the south-east office in 1999.

    Kevin started his career with Derbyshire County Council in 1974, working in the authority’s Planning and Land Reclamation Department and was involved in the remediation and redevelopment of disused and contaminated former industrial sites within the county, which included former collieries, quarries and railway land. Kevin later worked for a number of engineering and environmental consultancies in the private sector, during which period he worked on a variety of reservoir and infrastructure schemes, including the early stages of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, remediation of brownfield sites for housing redevelopment and general contracts management and adjudication work. He joined Merebrook in 1998.

    Huw began his career in Local Government working on all aspects of highway planning, design and construction supervision. He then moved to the private consulting sector working on major highway projects specialising in the structural design of road, rail and tramway structures. He has over 25 years experience in the civil engineering field and has recently acted as project director on highway schemes, engineering packages for oil processing plants and has worked on power station design, infrastructure design, and acted as CDM Coordinator on various projects.

    Eleanor began her career in 1999 with Merebrook. During her time with the company accounts department she successfully trained to become a qualified accountant, rising to become Finance Manager in 2006. As well as Finance, Eleanor is responsible for all aspects of administration of the company. She has been Company Secretary since 2005.
